Rabbi Moshe Parnes
Rabbi Parnes, founder of JEM and a New York native, attended the renowned
Mirrer Yeshiva for three years as a member of their Beis Medrash program.
He then traveled to Jerusalem where he spent four years learning in Yeshivas
Eeyun Hatalmud. In '84 he returned to America where he enrolled in the
prestigious Beis Medrash Gevoha (Lakewood Yeshiva) in Lakewood NJ.
In '87 he married (the former) Naama Tendler, and the couple returned to
Jerusalem, beginning with four years in Beis Medrash Gevoha's Jerusalem branch.
Rabbi Parnes then spent three years under the special tutelage of the
distinguished scholar Rabbi Moshe Halberstam, one of the heads of the
Jerusalem Beis Din.
Rabbi Parnes has rabbinical ordinations from the Jerusalem Beis Din and the
Chief Rabbinate of Israel, as well as personal ordinations from the Chief
Rabbi of Jerusalem and the head of the Jerusalem Beis Din.
Rabbi Parnes was the Rabbi of the Congregation Shomrei Emunah/Young Israel of
Dayton, Ohio from '96 - '99. He delivered the weekly sermon, led services,
read the Torah, ran shul-based classes and programs, and counseled youth and
adults. He also founded the Dayton Community Kollel (DCK),
giving classes to youth and adults of all backgrounds and affiliations,
including classes on the great texts, and Jewish Philosophy, Law, and History.
He also served as the DCK's Director of Fundraising.
Rabbi Parnes is formerly a member of the Atlanta Scholars Kollel, and currently
the Rabbi of Congregation Anshei Chesed of Sandy Springs in suburban northern
Atlanta.
Mrs. Naama Parnes
Mrs. Parnes, co-founder of JEM and a Los Angeles native, graduated from
the Seminary Yerushalayim in '86, and was awarded a Teacher's Certificate.
She taught Navi (Prophets) and the Megillos at the highly regarded Bnot Torah
Institute in Jerusalem, a seminary for post-high school Jewish studies.
In Dayton, Ohio, she developed and ran the Uniquely Ours program for Jewish
women, including both beginning and advanced topics in Jewish history,
philosophy, and womens' issues. She also served as Director of Public
Relations of the Dayton Community Kollel, planning and organizing Shabbatons
and special events, as well as designing the DCK's marketing materials.
Mrs. Parnes currently teaches Chumash (Torah) and the Megillos at Temima High
School in Atlanta, as well as several popular Adult Education classes for women.
